COMMON SENSE VOTER INFO for Contested Hollis Races

Political activists in Hollis are engaging in a “Hollis Together” campaign of misinformation against candidates they do not support. Sadly, this has created candidate confusion, marginalized good people, and harmed our town discourse. This website is offered to provide access to accurate and helpful voting information.

Select Board

  • FACT: There is a federal and state-wide push to force communities to build high-density, “affordable housing.” Not only does this remove each town’s ability to manage its own resources and planning, it also increases traffic, stresses community well water sources, and decreases the rural character of many towns. Most Hollis residents do not want to alter the beauty and character of our town.
  • FACT: Carryl Roy and Spencer Stickney are all in favor of high-density, “affordable housing.”

COMMON SENSE APPROACH: Elect a Select Board member who has a long record of fighting to protect our town’s local control against state and federal overreach, who has steadfastly worked to preserve our open spaces and rural character, and who is the only candidate to oppose federal and state efforts to force high-density housing on small towns.

Suggested:

A single “Bullet” vote for

Joe Garruba, Select Board

Town Budget Committee

COMMON SENSE APPROACH: Welcome and support qualified new candidates who desire to use their skills to serve our town budget committee while offering a balanced approach to developing realistic, cost-effective budgets.

Vote for:

Bob Berkman, Budget Committee

Library Trustee

  • FACT: The Hollis Social Library is in need of fresh leadership. The library violated both its own policies and New Hampshire law this past year, and an RSA-91 freedom of information request revealed that incumbent board member, Amy Kellner, tried to cover up this violation: Article on this violation

COMMON SENSE APPROACH: Elect a Library Trustee who not only values and supports our town library but is committed to integrity and board transparency.

Suggested:

A single “Bullet” vote for

Paula Papineau, Library Trustee (3 year term)

Paula Papaneau Info

Town Clerk

  • FACT: The incumbent town clerk opens the clerk’s office 15 hours per week and has been compensated $78,000 per year. *This has been verified by the Hollis Town Finance Department*
  • FACT: The incumbent town clerk has failed to keep copies of the town voter checklist and meeting minutes for the Supervisors of the Checklist, as required by law (RSA 41:24).

COMMON SENSE APPROACH: Elect for a Town Clerk committed to providing more convenient hours and excellent customer service for the people of Hollis, and one who will work in compliance of the law in all required duties.

Vote for:

Carrie Kepnes, Town Clerk

Carrie’s website

Supervisor of the Checklist

  • FACT: Prior to November 2022, the Hollis town voter checklist was not purged in time, violating existing law, and had been inaccurate by 20%.
  • FACT: An excel version of the Hollis town voter checklist has not been available, as prescribed by the New Hampshire Secretary of State and state law (RSA 654:31).
  • FACT: The Hollis town supervisors of the checklist were asked to meet with the New Hampshire Attorney General and Secretary of State to discuss issues of compliance with the law. The current supervisors of the checklist failed to attend this meeting on January 30, 2023.

COMMON SENSE APPROACH: Elect a Supervisor of The Checklist who has career experience in the most current forms of data management and is motivated to protect and maintain the accuracy of our voter list in compliance with the law.

Charlotte Constantian, Supervisor of the Checklist

Hollis School District Moderator

The Hollis School District does not have any candidates listed on the ballot. We have another common sense candidate who is willing to step-up for this position, who will treat all citizens fairly and make sure all voices are heard during meetings.

Write-in: David Parry - Moderator (1 year term)

My name is David Parry and I am running as a write-in candidate for the Hollis School District Moderator position. I am retired from a 36 year career with the Boy Scouts of America. For 17 of those years I served as the Executive Director and Secretary of BSA councils in Massachusetts and New Jersey. In that role I moderated 100’s of Board meetings. I was a trusted, unbiased advisor to the Executive board when there were contentious issues. Now that I am retired, I have the time to give and I believe my experience and skills as an effective moderator in the not-for-profit world will serve Hollis well.

My wife and I chose to retire in Hollis 2 years ago and are so happy we did. The rural beauty and traditional New Hampshire values have made us feel right at home. The community engagement in Hollis is strong and has shown us that new residents are welcome to contribute to the town in many different ways.

The position of Hollis School District Moderator requires experience and an unbiased approach. I offer my experience humbly and thoughtfully to Hollis residents.

Please consider me as a write-in candidate when you vote on Tuesday, March 28th. Thank you.

David Parry
